Installation of intelligent electric actuators by Prodim at the Fluxys site
Prodim Industrial Valves & Automation and Rotork assist the Belgian gas transmission system operator in reducing unwanted greenhouse gas emissions by installing intelligent electric actuators.
Rotork partial intelligent electric drives have been installed in several gas pressure reducing stations in Belgium to provide reliable power control without the release of unwanted greenhouse gas emissions.
These improvement works took place in June 2021 at the Fluxys Belgium site, which operates 4,000 kilometers of pipeline, a terminal for liquefied natural gas and an underground storage facility in Belgium. The IQT actuators ordered by Fluxys Belgium operate butterfly valves on boilers in unmanned gas pressure reduction stations across Belgium that lower the pressure of natural gas so that it can flow through a network operating at a lower pressure or be transferred to an end-user's facilities. This operation cools the natural gas and therefore requires natural gas to be preheated by boilers to keep the downstream temperature within a certain range.
The existing actuators at these locations used gas in the pipelines as a control medium, resulting in undesirable emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. To avoid these emissions and to reduce Fluxys Belgium's ecological footprint, Prodim Industrial Valves & Automation and Rotork Site Services installed electric actuators. The valves control the gas flow within this process. The boilers will now provide a more precise control task, are reliable and avoid the emissions that the previous pneumatic drives caused.
The installation of IQT actuators has ensured high-precision current control, zero emissions, easy installation, diagnostics and reliable operation. Prodim Industrial Valves & Automation and Rotork Site Services have provided IQTs retrofit to existing valves at the multiple sites, with mounting kit design and execution, on site installation, commissioning and training. IQT Actuators are the partial-rotating version of IQ3 Actuators, Rotork's industry-leading range of intelligent electric actuators. They provide continuous positioning at all times, even without power. They are explosion-proof according to international standards and offer protection against the ingress of water (double sealed to IP66/68 at 20m for 10 days).
